Recommendations for selecting pet foods

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you employ a full time qualified nutritionist?

Trouw Nutrition Canada has a team of full time and dedicated Companion Animal Nutritionists on staff that are
responsible for our Lifetime and Wholesome Blend product lines at our manufacturing site in St. Marys, Ontario. In
addition, Trouw Nutrition has individuals with PhDs in monogastric and companion animal nutrition.

Who formulates your foods and what are his/her credentials?

Our Companion Animal Nutritionist has a Bachelor of Science in Animal Biology and Nutrition, a MSc in Nutrition and 15+
years experience in the pet food industry.

Are your diets tested using the Association of Amercian Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) feeding trials or by formulation to meet AAFCO nutrient profiles? If the latter, do they meet AAFCO nutrient profiles by formulation or by analysis of the finished product?

Our diets are formulated to meet AAFCO nutrient profiles, and are tested based on the former Candian Veteriniary
Medical Association (CVMA) feeding trials program, which is similar to the AAFCO protocols.

Where are your foods produced and manufactured?

All of the Lifetime and Wholesome blend products are manufactured in our own facility in St. Marys, Ontario.

What specific quality control measures do you use to assure the consistency and quality of your ingredients and the end product?

Our facility is third party certified under the FSSC 22000 standard, which includes a full program of quality control
measures for ingredients, suppliers, facilities, manufacturing and finished product testing. Ingredients and products are
monitored for contaminants, toxins and microbiological measures, nutrient content, stability and other food safety and
quality measurements as appropriate to the material.

Additionally, all of our ingedients and ingredient suppliers are assessed and monitored by Trouw Nutrition’s Nutrace®, a
company wide proactive program to assure feed-to-food safety and quality.

Will you provide a complete nutrient analysis for the dog or cat food in question?

This information is available for each diet. We are currently working to publish the full typical analysis on our website in
the near future. We can also provide this information based on per energy basis, if requested.

What is the caloric value per gram, can, or cup of your foods?

Please see individual diet profiles on our website www.lifetimepetfood.ca

What kind of product research has been conducted?

We conduct palatability, stool quality, digestibility and urine pH (feline diets) monitoring. Our diets are tested based on
the former CVMA testing program, which is similar to AAFCO protocols. We do not produce clinical formulations (i.e.
prescription diets intended to treat, cure or prevent disease). All of the products we produce are appropriately labeled as
to their use (complete and balanced) and life stages, as well as the method used to determine that.
